  • Scottie Scheffler (+650) and Sam Burns (+1400) to win make sense.
  • Aaron Wise and Taylor Montgomery are worth considering to finish inside the top 10.

There are just two full-field events left in the fall swing on the PGA Tour, which means there are limited golf betting opportunities until 2023.

This week, it’s the Cadence Bank Houston Open, which has a purse of $8.4 million. It will be played at Memorial Park, where there likely won’t be as many birdies as the other events this fall. Because of its length (over 7,400 yards), tight runoffs around the greens and the potential for windy conditions, players typically don’t go super low.

When putting together my card, I will be targeting players who play well on tougher courses and leaning on the best players in what is a below-average field. There are just four players in the top 20 of the Official World Golf Rankings.

Here is my betting card for the second-to-last full-field event of the 2022 calendar year.

Cadence Bank Houston Open Predictions: 3 Picks

  • Scottie Scheffler Outright Win +650 (.5 Unit)
  • Sam Burns Outright Win +1400 (.5 Unit)
  • Aaron Wise Top-10 Finish +160 (1 Unit)
  • Taylor Montgomery Top-10 Finish +188 (1 Unit)

Selecting Scheffler and Burns to win outright is pretty simple: they are the two best players in the field. With not much star power in the field and a difficult golf course, this favors the best players. While the odds aren’t great (especially in Scheffler’s case), it’s worth a play.

Based on the betting odds, Wise is the third-best player in the field, and thus why I’m selecting him to finish in the top 10 at plus money. He thrives on tough courses and has finished T11 and T26 in his last two starts at Memorial Park.

Lastly, Montgomery’s length off the tee will help him this week, and maybe even more beneficial is his recent form. The 27-year-old has finished in the top 15 in all five of his starts this season, including three top-10s.

Season Record: 5-17, -6.32 units (Last week: 0-4, -3 units)
