UFC 296: Edwards vs. Covington

Leon Edwards closed the show in 2023 by unanimously beating bitter rival Colby Covington in their UFC welterweight title fight to successfully defend his title in the main event of UFC 296, which went down inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Edwards was a step ahead and a level above Covington in both the striking and grappling department as he dominated the challenger throughout the fight. It was Edwards’ 13th straight victory, and he hasn’t received a defeat since 2015.

UFC 295: Procházka vs. Pereira

Alex Pereira became the 9th fighter in UFC history to win two division titles after he defeated Jiří Procházka in the main event of UFC 295 inside the Madison Square Garden in New York. “Poatan” timed a picture-perfect left hook counter to “BJP,” and it was the beginning of the end for him as the Brazilian pounced away with multiple elbows to the side of the head of Procházka that forced the referee to stop the match. It was only Pereira’s 9th MMA career victory and 6th win under the UFC, which makes this achievement even more impressive.

UFC 294: Makhachev vs. Volkanovski 2

Islam Makhachev once again fended off the challenge of Alexander Volkanovski in their UFC lightweight title rematch in the headliner of UFC 294 as he convincingly defeated the reigning UFC featherweight champion in the opening round via a head kick knockout that left no doubt from his first victory over the Australian in February 2023 at UFC 284. The Russian champion performed flawlessly in the Etihad Arena in Yas Island, United Arab Emirates. The win also gave Makhachev an additional $50,000 for his Performance of the Night award.

UFC 293: Adesanya vs. Strickland

Sean Strickland scored a massive upset in the main event of UFC 293 as he defeated Israel Adesanya in the main event of UFC 293 inside the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia. Strickland dominated the fight from start to finish by putting the former champion on the backfoot and neutralizing his long-range kicks and punches to shut him down. “Tarzan” even scored a big knockdown in the opening round to set the tone of the match. It was the American’s first title triumph in his nine-year career in the UFC as he now reigns over the 185-pound division.

UFC 292: Sterling vs. O’Malley

Sean O’Malley ended Aljamain Sterling’s reign as UFC’s bantamweight champion after a second-round TKO finish in the main event of UFC 291 inside the TD Garden in Boston. “Suga Sean,” the betting underdog coming into the fight, defied the odds through his signature right-hand punch that sent the “Funk Master” down the mat. It was O’Malley’s 17th career victory and 12th TKO/KO win. He will welcome several challengers in his newly minted reign as the king of the 135-pound division.

UFC 291: Poirier vs. Gaethje 2

Justin Gaethje exacted revenge against Dustin Poirier in their rematch as he knocked him out via a head kick in the second round of their UFC 291 clash. The victory also earned Gaethje the “BMF” title previously held by Jorge Masvidal. Furthermore, “The Highlight” is likely next in line for the undisputed lightweight title as he awaits the winner of reigning champion Islam Makhachev and challenger Charles Oliveira.

UFC 290: Volkanovski vs. Rodriguez

Alexander Volkanovski once again proved that he is the undisputed king of the UFC’s featherweight division after scoring a third-round TKO stoppage of interim champion Yair Rodriguez in the main event of UFC 290 inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. It was Volkanovski’s fifth title defense since winning the title in December 2019, and the Australian also kept his perfect record in the 145-pound division.

UFC 289: Nunes vs. Aldana

Amanda Nunes displayed another dominant performance in her last fight in the UFC by successfully defending the bantamweight title against her latest challenger Irene Aldana via a lopsided unanimous decision. The two headlined the return of the Las Vegas-based promotion in Canada and was the main featured bout of UFC 289. Shortly after the win, “The Lioness” announced her retirement from the sport during the post-fight interview.

UFC 288: Sterling vs. Cejudo

Aljamain Sterling successfully defended his UFC Bantamweight title for the third time by beating former champion Henry Cejudo (who came out of retirement of three years) via split decision in the featured bout of UFC 288 in May 2023. It was a close and competitive fight, but Sterling picked up the victory to further stamp his status as the king of the 135-pound division.

UFC 287: Pereira vs. Adesanya 2

Another sweet revenge was witnessed in the main event of UFC 287, where Israel Adesanya knocked out Alex Pereira in the second round of their middleweight title rematch. In their kickboxing days, Adesanya suffered two losses from Pereira; then, the Brazilian transitioned to MMA and eventually beat him in November 2022 with a fifth-round TKO.

UFC 286: Edwards vs. Usman 3

The head-to-head score between rivals Leon Edwards and Kamaru Usman was settled in March 2023 on Edwards’ home turf in London, England. It was their third meeting after Usman dominated their first meeting in December 2015, and Edwards mounted a gigantic comeback in the rematch in August 2022. “Rocky” outpointed “The Nigerian Nightmare” via majority decision to keep his welterweight belt and secure his title defense.

UFC 285: Jones vs. Gane

The highly anticipated return of Jon Jones went down in March 2023 as he moved up to the heavyweight division to face one of the top contenders Ciryl Gane for the vacant UFC Heavyweight title that Francis Ngannou relinquished after not renewing his contract with the UFC. The former light heavyweight champion did quick work of Gane as he submitted him in the opening round via Guillotine choke in under three minutes.

UFC 284: Makhachev vs. Volkanovski

The champion-versus-champion showdown between UFC Lightweight king Islam Makhachev and UFC Featherweight title holder Alexander Volkanovski went down in Australia for Makhachev’s coveted 155-pound belt. It was an exciting back-and-forth fight that lived up to the champion versus champion bill. In the end, Makhachev got away with a unanimous decision victory to retain his lightweight strap.

UFC 283: Teixeira vs. Hill

Jamahal Hill seized his first title opportunity by lopsidedly beating former champion Glover Teixeira via a unanimous decision. Hill displayed an incredible performance to capture the vacant UFC Light Heavyweight title, which Jan Blachowicz and Magomed Ankalaev previously fought in a controversial draw result in December 2022.
