UFC’s newest “BMF” champion was crowned in the main event of UFC 291 inside the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, as Justin Gaethje (25-4) knocked out Dustin Poirier (29-8) in the second round of their fight via head kick. The victory also boosted Gaethje’s UFC odds of cracking another title shot for the undisputed lightweight title after coming up short in his first two attempts in October 2020 and May 2022.

Other than Gaethje, three other finishes from the card were awarded as Kevin Holland, Bobby Green, and Derrick Lewis secured an additional $50,000 for their respective finishes of their opponents during the main card. Holland submitted Michael Chiesa in the first round, Green submitted Tony Ferguson in the third round, and Lewis TKO’ed Marcos Rogerio de Lima.
