Islam Makhachev once again proved that he’s one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world by successfully defending his UFC lightweight title for the third time this weekend in the main event of the UFC 302 card inside the Prudential Center in Newark against the challenge from No.4-ranked contender Dustin Poirier with a fifth-round submission victory.

Makhachev put away Poirier’s tough challenge, who was trying to defy the UFC odds and finally become the undisputed king of the division for the third time in his career, by putting him to sleep in the fifth round via a Brabo choke.
Because of this fantastic performance, the Dagestani superstar earned a double bonus, receiving Performance of the Night and Fight of the Night honors, which earned him an additional $100,000.
