  • Leon Edwards defeated Kamaru Usman in their trilogy match.
  • Usman sustained his first back-to-back losses in his MMA career.
  • Usman’s next opponent is not yet determined.

Kamaru Usman failed to regain his welterweight title in the main event of UFC 286 after sustaining a majority decision loss to rival Leon Edwards. It was only Usman’s third career MMA loss and his first back-to-back setback. At 35, the “Nigerian Nightmare” is not here to stay any longer in the game, as he stated in the post-fight interview.

Despite this loss, Usman is still notable in BetMGM’s online sportsbook through the UFC odds, as fans expect him to make another run for the title and reclaim the title. The ultimate question now is, when will he return to fight again, and who will be his opponent?

Kamaru Usman Team and Corner

Kamaru Usman was a former member of Sanford MMA in Florida during his early years in the UFC, where he was guided by coaches Henri Hooft and Greg Jones. Under Sanford MMA, he was able to train with other top UFC contenders, Gilbert Burns, Michael Chandler, Luke Rockhold and Vicente Luque.

But because of the inevitable fight between him and Gilbert Burns, Usman was forced to leave his former team to train against his former teammate, and he found a new coach in Trevor Wittman and Jorge Santiago. Apart from Usman, Wittman also trains Rose Namajunas and Justin Gaethje. Other personalities in Kamaru Usman’s corner during fights are Francis Ngannou and his brother Mohammed Usman.
