  • Kamaru Usman was knocked out by Leon Edwards in their title rematch.
  • A trilogy match is in the works between him and Leon Edwards.

Kamaru Usman’s reign as the undisputed UFC Welterweight Champion was ended by Leon Edwards in August 2022 with an epic come-from-behind fifth-round knockout in the main event of UFC 278 last August 2022. This loss not only snapped Usman’s unbeaten run in the UFC, but it was also a revenge victory for Edwards, who absorbed a unanimous decision loss from the Nigerian fighter in December 2015.

Despite this loss, Usman is still notable in BetMGM’s online sportsbook through the UFC odds, as fans expect him to reclaim the title immediately once he gets another opportunity. The ultimate question now is, when will he return to fight again, and who will be his opponent?

When Is Kamaru Usman’s Next Fight?

Kamaru Usman will have a chance to reclaim his UFC Middleweight Title against Leon Edwards as the two faces each other for the third time in the main event of UFC 286, which will happen on March 18, 2023. Usman travels to Edwards’ home turf in London because the event will be staged inside the O2 Arena.

Usman is looking for a revenge victory after Edwards dethroned him as the undisputed 170-pound UFC champion in August 2022, where his 14-straight win was snapped, and his unbeaten run under the Las Vegas-based promotion came to an end.

Kamaru Usman Team and Corner

Kamaru Usman was a former member of Sanford MMA in Florida during his early years in the UFC, where he was guided by coaches Henri Hooft and Greg Jones. Under Sanford MMA, he was able to train with other top UFC contenders, Gilbert Burns, Michael Chandler, Luke Rockhold and Vicente Luque.

But because of the inevitable fight between him and Gilbert Burns, Usman was forced to leave his former team to train against his former teammate, and he found a new coach in Trevor Wittman and Jorge Santiago. Apart from Usman, Wittman also trains Rose Namajunas and Justin Gaethje. Other personalities in Kamaru Usman’s corner during fights are Francis Ngannou and his brother Mohammed Usman.
