I don’t really see any value in these preseason odds for a Washington team projected to finish with about 11 wins.
The losses of two-time WNBA MVP Elena Delle Donne and point guard Natasha Cloud are too much to overcome. The Mystics are unlikely to be in the playoff picture this year.
But from a betting perspective, I’m intrigued by Washington’s point totals. Specifically, overs might be back on the menu.
My model made the Mystics a strong under team last year, ranking fourth in defensive rating and eighth in points per game.
But the Mystics plan to change their offensive approach this season, as reported by The Next. They plan to pressure the rim and create more catch-and-shoot opportunities from 3-point range.
Between guard Brittney Sykes and forward Shakira Austin, there are enough intriguing pieces here to make the Mystics more formidable at scoring.Â
Oddsmakers will adjust after a few games, but that’s why bettors should be ready to pounce on discounted overs right away.
