Shaheen Holloway departed Saint Peter’s immediately after the Peacocks’ run to the Elite Eight, taking the opening at Seton Hall. Holloway played for the Pirates from 1996-2000, and when Kevin Willard left Seton Hall for Maryland, Holloway was the obvious choice.
Saint Peters Elite Eight Run 2022
One of the NCAA Tournament’s best aspects is the upsets and the occasional deep runs by double-digit seeds. The 2022 NCAA Tournament will always be remembered as the Big Dance that saw 15-seed Saint Peter’s stun the nation with multiple huge upsets and a run to the Elite Eight.

Saint Peter’s was coached by Holloway. Holloway took over as the coach at Saint Peter’s, a small school in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, in 2018 and was 10-22 in his first season. The Peacocks quickly improved, jumping to 18-12 in his second season and 22-12 in his fourth. They won the MAAC tournament and made the NCAA Tournament as a 15-seed.
The Peacocks shocked Kentucky in the first round and advanced to play the Murray State Racers. Saint Peter’s faced third-seed Purdue in the Sweet 16, beating the Boilermakers by a score of 67-64 to advance to the program’s first Elite Eight. The Cinderella run ended with a 20-point loss to North Carolina.
