  • Joe Cordina defends his IBF World Super Featherweight title for the second time against Edward Vazquez.
  • Cordina is the heavy betting favorite at -1000.
  • Vazquez is the overwhelming betting underdog at +600.

The Casino de Monte Carlo Salle Medecin in Monaco will play host to the IBF World Super Featherweight title showdown of Joe Cordina (16-0) and Edward Vazquez (15-1) this Saturday, Nov. 4. It will be Cordina’s second world title defense, since he won the title in June 2022. Cordina is looking to keep his record perfect.

Coming into the fight, Cordina will be the heavy betting favorite in boxing odds at -1000 because of his immaculate record and a higher finishing rate compared to Vazquez, who  is the overwhelming betting underdog at +600.

Joe Cordina Recent Fight Results

Before making strides in the professional ranks, Cordina was a former gold medalist in the European championship and a former Olympian who competed in the 2016 Summer Games in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. In April 2017, the 31-year-old made his pro debut against Jose Aguilar and finished him in the fourth round via TKO.

Since then, the British boxing star has not lost, capturing two minor titles, the Commonwealth Boxing Council lightweight title and BBBofC British lightweight title. In June 2022, Cordina finally captured a major boxing title after knocking out Kenichi Ogawa in their IBF world title showdown to become the new title holder. He was successful in his first title defense and defeated Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov in April 2023 via split decision.

Edward Vazquez Recent Fight Results

Vazquez is a young boxer out of Fort Worth, Texas, who made his pro debut in Feb. 2016, beating Willie Miller via unanimous decision. “Kid” racked up 10 straight victories and captured the WBC USA Featherweight title during this stretch. But Vazquez suffered his first career loss in Feb. 2022 at the hands of Raymond Ford with a split decision.

Following that setback, the 28-year-old bounced back and won his next four bouts. Vazquez defeated Jose Argel, Viktor Slavinskyi, Misael Lopez, and Bryan De Gracia. His triumph over De Gracia also got him the vacant IBF Inter-Continental Featherweight title that made him the mandatory challenger to Cordina’s IBF Super Featherweight belt.

Joe Cordina vs. Edward Vazquez: Fight Analysis

The advantages on paper between Cordina and Vazquez favor the former because he will enjoy 2 inches of height and reach advantages. Cordina is also the more experienced fighter at 31 years old, with an undefeated record and a 56% finish rate.

Meanwhile, Vazquez is still a relatively young fighter at 28 with an impressive pro record of 15 wins and one defeat with a 20% TKO/KO percentage. Style-wise, the American’s fighting approach is perfect for the British champion because he fights in a linear manner as he throws his combinations moving forward.

This type of fighting usually leaves a boxer open for counters and catches them off guard. Cordina’s counterpunching will be a problem for the challenger because he is a master of it. He pairs this with great footwork and power, which makes him a perfect fit for Vazquez’s fighting style, especially since this will be Vazquez’s first major world title.

Once Cordina gets his proper range through his strong jabs, expect him to get comfortable throwing combinations that could swiftly end the fight. His fighting IQ will be too much for Vazquez to handle as he can adjust his strategy and approach on the fly, depending on what his opponent presents him.
