FCS football powerhouse James Madison began its long-awaited transition to FBS football in 2022. The Dukes quickly made waves by winning the Sun Beltโ€™s Eastern division. (Well, kind of.)

Now, another familiar FCS brand is beginning its transition toward FBS football: Sam Houston. The Bearkats have been a playoff staple over the last decade and seized a national championship in the (admittedly weird) 2021 spring season โ€“ beating both JMU and North Dakota State along the way.ย

Yes, both Sam Houston and Jacksonville State will play their first year of FBS football in 2023. From now on, if either program is involved in any FCS vs. FBS upsets, theyโ€™ll be on the wrong side of them.ย

For those interested in the handicapping side of things, hereโ€™s a quick look at some early Sam Houston odds at the FBS level.

Sam Houston 2023 Win Total

Sam Houston has a win total of 3.5, with -140 juice to the over, for the 2023 college football season.

Sam Houston vs. BYU Odds

At BetMGM, Sam Houston is currently a 23.5-point underdog at BYU in its Week 1 season-opener for the 2023 college football season.

That game will also be BYUโ€™s first game as a member of the Big 12.ย
