Theย  2023 MLB season is here, but that hasn’t stopped players from signing with new teams.

Notable Moves This Week

Player Team Total Value
Franchy Cordero New York Yankees Split deal, $1.18 million
Jay Jackson Toronto Blue Jays One year, $1.5 million
Luke Voit Milwaukee Brewers One year, $2 million

Less than 24 hours before Opening Day, the Yankees agreed to terms with outfielder Franchy Cordero. The contract is a split deal, meaning Cordero will earn $1 million at the major league level and $180,000 in the minors.

Cordero spent spring training with the Orioles and was released from the team on Monday. He spent last with the Boston Red Sox, hitting .219/.300/.397 with eight homers and 29 RBI.

The Blue Jays also agreed to terms on a split deal, signing Jay Jackson to a one-year contract worth $1.5 million. The deal followed an excellent showing during spring training. Across 9 1/3 innings of work, he struck out 13 batters and racked up only two unearned runs on seven hits and two walks. To begin the season, the veteran righty will head to Triple-A Buffalo.

As part of a slew of moves to prepare for Opening Day, the Brewers signed first baseman Luke Voit to a one-year contract. The former home run champion will earn $2 million and could earn up to $3 million in additional bonuses.

The deal also includes a $12 million team option for 2024 with no buyout. Last season, Voit spent time with the San Diego Padres and Washington Nationals. Across 132 games, he hit .226 with 22 home runs, 69 RBIs, and a .308 OBP.
