The Athletics moved to Oakland in 1968, having previously been based in Kansas City and Philadelphia.

The team played their first game in the Bay Area on Wednesday, April 17, 1968, at the Oakland Coliseum, their home stadium. The game ended in the Athletics losing to the Baltimore Orioles, 4–1, in front of an opening-night crowd of 50,164.

When Did the Athletics Leave Philadelphia for Kansas City?

The Athletics were founded in Philadelphia in 1901 as the Philadelphia Athletics. They left Philadelphia for Kansas City in 1955 and became the Kansas City Athletics.
