The 76ers are now among the NBA odds favorites after signing Paul George.

Philadelphia’s championship price was cut in half from +1600 to +800 since the NBA Finals. It marks the team’s shortest price to win it all since it was +775 entering 2019-20.

The 76ers’ win total has also increased by four games since last year.

The 76ers landed the biggest name in free agency and have spent the summer building a contender around George, Joel Embiid, and Tyrese Maxey.

In the current NBA era, free agency is more about improving your roster on the margins. Stars are typically only available if they demand a trade.

That’s why it was a no-brainer for the 76ers to pursue George once he moved on from the Los Angeles Clippers. George signed a four-year, $211,584,940 contract with the 76ers to form a Big Three that perfectly fits together on the basketball court.

Philadelphia also brought in Andre Drummond to be Emiid’s backup center and signed Caleb Martin to a valuable four-year, $35 million contract.

The 76ers had to say goodbye to some reliable contributors, but they are certainly better than last year.

Prediction: Atlantic Division Dual Forecast – Celtics/76ers (-115)

Bettors can get -115 odds on the 76ers or New York Knicks to finish in the top two of the Atlantic Division with the Boston Celtics. You just have to decide which team is better, the Knicks or the 76ers.

I’m backing the 76ers, even if their win total is one game below the Knicks.

Philadelphia has the best player in this division, assuming Embiid is healthy. George will be better than New York’s No. 2 player this year, while Maxey is a superior third option to most other teams.

The best part about the 76ers’ Big Three is that they should fit perfectly together, as there are no overlapping skill sets. The same can’t be said for the Knicks’ roster.

You are always counting on health when backing Philadelphia, and that’s certainly a concern. 

However, George’s presence should help if the 76ers deal with an extended absence from Embiid.

I’m buying the 76ers as a contender this year.
