What Does +8 Spread Mean in NBA Betting?

If a team is +8 in NBA betting at BetMGM, they’re an underdog of eight points. Their opponent, the favorite, would be -8.

To cover the spread (+8), the underdog must lose by seven points or win the game.

To cover the spread (-8), the favorite must win the game by at least nine points.

Overtime is included in the final score that determines the spread outcome.

Example of +8 Spread in NBA Betting

Charlotte Hornets (+8, -105) at Chicago Bulls (-8, -115)

The Hornets are the road underdog (+8), and the Bulls are the home favorite (-8).

If Charlotte loses by seven points or wins the game, they cover the spread. If Chicago wins by at least nine points, they cover.

Here are some score examples:

Hornets 130, Bulls 115: The Hornets win by 15 points and cover the spread.

Bulls 120, Hornets 111: The Bulls win by nine points and cover the spread.

Bulls 116, Hornets 108: The Bulls win by eight points and push.

Payout for +8 Spread in NBA Betting

Sacramento Kings (+8, -110) at Golden State Warriors (-8, -110)

The odds beside the spread determine the payout. In this Kings-Warriors example, the odds for each spread (+8 and -8) are -110. The odds can vary for games; they could be +115, +100, -105, -110, or another value.

With -110 odds, a winning bet with a $50 stake would return $95.45 (including stake).

At -105 odds, a winning bet with a $50 stake would return $97.62 (including stake).

If a spread bet pushes, the stake is refunded.
