Yes, Sean Miller was fired by Arizona on April 7, 2021.

The decision wasn’t for lack of winning, as Miller was the helmsman for 302 total wins during his tenure as head coach of the Wildcats.

Instead, Miller was fired following a review of the NCAA’s Independent Accountability Resolution Process, which investigates complex infractions at the Division I level. It dovetailed with a US federal investigation into corruption in college basketball.

The IARP forced Arizona (and Miller) to vacate 50 total wins in which guard Rawle Alkins had appeared. Alkins was allegedly paid $50,000 to attend Arizona.

The decision to fire Miller was undertaken by the Arizona athletic department, though, with no explicit input from the NCAA.

Miller returned to his previous post as head coach of Xavier. In 2023, Miller is poised to lead the Musketeers back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2018.
