Princeton beat No. 2 Arizona in the first round of the 2023 NCAA Tournament, scoring yet another major upset for No. 15 seeds.

Arizona was a 15-point favorite at the BetMGM online sportsbook before the game started. Princeton won, 59-55.

Arizona had just won the Pac-12 conference championship over UCLA and was considered one of the top six contenders for the national championship, alongside Alabama, Kansas, Houston, Purdue, and the aforementioned UCLA Bruins.

This is the third consecutive tournament that a No. 15 seed has upset a No. 2 seed in the first round of the tournament. Last year, Saint Peter’s upset Kentucky en route to an Elite Eight appearance; in 2021, No. 15 Oral Roberts beat Ohio State.

This is the first NCAA Tournament win for Princeton since the No. 5 seed Tigers beat No. 12 UNLV in 1998.
