The New Orleans Saints selected Andrus Peat with the 13th pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. He was expected to play tackle, but injuries impacted his development, and he’s now a guard
Andrus Peat Salary
Peat signed a five-year, $57.5 million contract with the Saints in April 2018. That deal has been an albatross for the organization since. The two parties recently reworked an agreement that gives the team significant savings in 2023 and voids the contract after this season.
The 2023 base salary for Andrus Peat is $1,500,000, with $7,346,000 in prorated bonus.
Andrus Peat Cap Hit
The New Orleans Saints saved more than $9 million in cap space by restructuring Peat’s deal, but his contract still carries a cap charge of $8,846,000 (3.96% of the cap). That places him as the 10th highest-paid left guard in the league, something his injury history and recent play do not back up.
Andrus Peat Potential Extension
Peat’s contract is now expiring after the 2023 season. Right guard Cesar Ruiz also has a rookie deal set to expire after this campaign. The most likely outcome appears to be the Saints picking up the team option on Ruiz’s contract and letting Peat walk in free agency after the 2023 season.
This would mean the Saints will draft a left guard in the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft and groom that individual to take over Peat’s spot in 2024.
