Derek Carr announced his retirement from professional football in May, walking away from what almost certainly would have been a difficult year in New Orleans.
The Saints’ odds market does not suggest New Orleans will contend at any kind of high level, and Carr himself, now 34, is dealing with a growing list of maladies.
It’s probably a good move for Carr, who has banked nearly $200 million in career earnings and is free to start thinking about his long-term wellness.
Derek Carr Contract
On March 6, 2023, Derek Carr signed a four-year, $150 million contract with the New Orleans Saints. The deal runs through 2026 and includes a full no-trade clause.
Carr received a $28.5 million signing bonus.
Derek Carr Salary
Derek Carr was scheduled to collect about $8.75 million from his NFL contract this year.
Derek Carr Guaranteed Money
Derek Carr was ensured $60 million worth of guaranteed money when he initially signed his contract with the Saints. That was his $1.5 million base salary from 2023, his $30 million base salary from 2024, and his $28.5 million signing bonus.
Carr’s roster bonus for 2025 was fully guaranteed in March 2024; his actual 2025 salary was guaranteed in March 2025.
