Derek Carr signed a three-year contract extension worth more than $100 million with the Las Vegas Raiders in April 2022. Just 10 months later, he was cut.

It was an uncomfortable divorce, and the Raiders have since fired head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager David Ziegler. But in the meantime, Carr became something of a rarity in the professional football circuit: a successful, free-agent quarterback.

A deal was soon to follow.

Derek Carr Contract

On March 6, 2023, Derek Carr signed a four-year, $150 million contract with the New Orleans Saints. The deal runs through 2026 and includes a full No Trade clause.ย

Carr received a $28.5 million signing bonus.

Derek Carr Salary

Derek Carrโ€™s contract is financially backloaded. He draws a $1.5 million base salary in 2023 in a prove-it year for the Saints. In 2024 and 2025, his base salary jumps to $30 million โ€“ assuming heโ€™s retained by the organization.ย

At the time of his signing, nothing beyond the second year of the contract was guaranteed.ย

Derek Carr Guaranteed Money

Derek Carr was ensured $60 million worth of guaranteed money when he initially signed his contract with the Saints. That was his $1.5 million base salary from 2023, his $30 million base salary from 2024, and his $28.5 million signing bonus.

Carrโ€™s roster bonus for 2025 fully guarantees in March 2024; his actual 2025 salary isnโ€™t guaranteed until March 2025.ย

Derek Carr Team Option (2026)

The final year of Derek Carrโ€™s current contract is a team option for 2026. The Saints can keep him around for his age-35 season for a whopping $50 million if they choose.
