The San Francisco 49ers have appeared in seven Super Bowls: XVI, XIX, XXIII, XXIV, XXIX, XLVII, and LIV. They rank fifth in the NFL behind the Patriots, Cowboys, Steelers, and Broncos for most Super Bowl appearances.

Have the 49ers Ever Won the Super Bowl?

The 49ers are five-time Super Bowl Champions, tied with the Cowboys for third-most in NFL history.

Super Bowl XVI vs. Bengals

This marked the 49ers’ first Super Bowl victory of the Joe Montana era, who was named Super Bowl MVP the 26-21 victory.

Super Bowl XIX vs. Dolphins

Montana earned his second Super Bowl over Dan Marino in a duel between two of the league’s best quarterbacks at the time. The Niners came out on top 38-16, with Montana earning MVP honors after throwing for 331 yards and three touchdowns.

Super Bowl XXIII vs. Bengals

This was a Super Bowl XVI rematch, with the Niners coming out on top in a 20-16 win. In a tight game throughout, the 49ers won on a game-winning fourth-quarter drive led by Joe Montana. It wasn’t enough to earn MVP honors, as Jerry Rice took that hardware thanks to his 11-reception, 215-yard performance with a touchdown.

Super Bowl XXXIV vs. Broncos

San Francisco became repeat champions in a 55-10 Super Bowl win over the Broncos. This time, it came under head coach George Seifert after Bill Walsh’s retirement after Super Bowl XXIII. Joe Montana took home MVP honors after throwing five touchdowns.

Super Bowl XXIX vs. Chargers

The 49ers won their fifth title in an offensive showdown with the Chargers, coming out on top 49-26. Steve Young won his first ring and Super Bowl MVP as the starting quarterback after being questioned about being Montana’s backup.
