The Commanders have won three Super Bowls in franchise history. Most recently, they defeated the Buffalo Bills in Super Bowl XXVI.
Super Bowl VII vs. Miami Dolphins
The Commanders made their first Super Bowl appearance after the 1972 season. They were defeated by the Dolphins, who remain the only NFL team in modern history to complete a perfect undefeated season.
Super Bowl XVII vs. Miami Dolphins
Washington and Miami met again in 1983. This time around, the Commanders won 27-17, earning the franchise’s first Super Bowl victory.
Super Bowl XVIII vs. Los Angeles Raiders
The Commanders returned to the Super Bowl the following year but were met with vastly different results. The Raiders demolished the defending champs 38-9. The 29-point margin of victory broke the record for the largest margin of victory ever in a Super Bowl.
Super Bowl XXII vs. Denver Broncos
Doug Williams led the Commanders to victory over the Broncos in 1988. In the second quarter, Washington scored 35 points in 18 plays on the way to the dominant 42-10 win.
Super Bowl XXVI vs. Buffalo Bills
In 1992, Washington capped off one of the best seasons in franchise history with a 37-24 victory at the Metrodome in Minneapolis.
