  • The Jaguars are a 4-point home underdog against the Vikings.
  • The Jaguars have lost nine straight games against NFC North opponents.
  • My Jaguars vs. Vikings prediction is the Vikings to win the first quarter.

With a win on Sunday in Jacksonville, the Minnesota Vikings can eclipse their season win total.

Minnesota ended a two-game losing streak in Week 9 against Indianapolis. Despite falling behind early, the Vikings came from behind to win 21-13.

Jacksonville’s misfortune continued in Week 9. After a slight home loss to Green Bay, the Jaguars traveled to Philadelphia and fell 27-23 to the Eagles.

Jaguars vs. Vikings Prediction

Based on Minnesota’s strong offensive record in the first quarter and Jacksonville’s poor defensive record, my Jaguars vs. Vikings prediction is the Vikings 1Q Spread (-0.5, +110).

A scoreless first quarter against the Colts ended Minnesota’s streak of seven consecutive first quarter victories.

Now, Kevin O’Connell’s team receives a chance to start another streak against a team with horrific defensive metrics in the first quarter.

Per rbsdm.com, the Jaguars rank 30th in defensive EPA per play and 24th in defensive success during the opening 15 minutes.

Comparatively, Minnesota rates second in each of the corresponding offensive metrics.

Even more concerning for Jacksonville? They’ve yet to battle an opponent on Minnesota’s level in terms of first-quarter strength.

The closest team in terms of quality was Buffalo back in Week 3. As it stands, the Bills rank 13th in first quarter EPA per play and 10th in first quarter success rate.

That opening quarter didn’t favor Jacksonville with Doug Pederson’s team falling behind 13-0 at the end of 15 minutes.

Additionally, home-field advantage hasn’t exactly given the Jaguars any early boosts.

Jacksonville has covered +0.5 in the first quarter only once in three home games, losing to both the Colts and Browns.

Pair those trends with the fact Jacksonville ranks 26th in first quarter success rate, and I’ll take the Vikings to win their eighth first quarter in nine tries.
