Jayron Kearse Contract: Salary, Cap Hit, Potential Extension

The Dallas Cowboys rolled the dice on Jayron Kearse with another one-year deal in 2021, and the 27-year-old blossomed. Kearse set career benchmarks in every major statistical category. He accumulated 101 tackles, two interceptions, 1.0 sacks, and ten pass deflections, earning his first multi-year contract since 2016.

In 2022, the Cowboys signed Kearse to a two-year, $10,000,000 contract. The deal included a $3,500,000 signing bonus, with $5,000,000 guaranteed at signing and an average annual salary of $5,000,000.

Kearse has one year left on his latest contract with the Cowboys. Although he didn’t reach his previous high marks in 2022, the former seventh-round pick was integral to the Cowboys’ defense. All 14 of Kearse’s appearances were starts, and he ranked third on the team with 77 tackles, fourth in pass deflections with five, and set a new personal best with 2.0 sacks.

More importantly, the Cowboys ranked as one of the best pass defenses in the NFL. When the dust settled on last year’s campaign, Dallas allowed the eighth-fewest passing yards per game and eighth-best opponent completion percentage.

Kearse has solidified himself as a premier player in the Cowboys’ secondary. The 29-year-old is on the edge of his prime years, but if he replicates his metrics from the past couple of seasons, Kearse could have one more big payday coming his way.

Another team desperate for secondary help could throw a lot of guaranteed money at Kearse in next year’s free-agent class.
