Facing 2nd-and-12 from their own 29-yard line in a Week 2 game against the Cleveland Bengals in September 2008, Chris Johnson took the handoff from Kerry Collins, the Tennessee Titans’ backup quarterback under center on an impossible-to-throw day with wind gusts of 50 miles-per-hour at Paul Brown Stadium.
It was the 28th career carry for Johnson, a first-round NFL Draft pick who made headlines with a 4.24-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine seven months earlier. And it was the first 50-yard carry in the second NFL game of a career that would include nearly 10,000 rushing yards.
Johnson’s 51-yard run to the Bengals’ 20-yard line set up the Titans’ second touchdown, which proved to be the game-winner in the second of 10 straight wins to open the 2008 season.
The former East Carolina star had another long run five weeks later – 66 yards against the Kansas City Chiefs – and another six weeks after that – 58 yards against the Detroit Lions – en route to 1,228 rushing yards in his rookie season – at the time the 20th-highest total by a rookie in NFL history.

Approximately 10 years later, Johnson announced his retirement after three Pro Bowl selections, one rushing title, nearly 12,000 total rushing and receiving yards, and 13 carries of at least 50 yards.
CJ2K had at least one 50-yard carry in five of his 10 seasons, including five in 2009 alone. In rushing for 2,006 yards that year, he had three runs of at least 80 yards and three more of 52, 48, and 41 yards.
