Before joining the coaching ranks, Dan Campbell had an 11-year playing career as a tight end in the NFL with the New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys, Detroit Lions, and New Orleans Saints.

Campbell was a Giants third-round pick in the 1999 NFL Draft and part of the New York team that made Super Bowl XXXV.

The current Lions head coach also played in 114 games (76 starts) and finished with 91 receptions for 934 yards and 11 touchdowns.
