In June 2021, Alex Ovechkin signed a five-year, $47.5 million contract extension with the Capitals that runs through the 2025-26 campaign.
One of the highest-paid Capitals players, Ovechkin has spent his entire career in Washington after being selected No. 1 overall in the 2004 draft.
His total career earnings is $150,720,893.

Ovechkin has an average annual salary of $9.5 million for the remainder of his contract:
- 2024-25: $9.5 million
- 2025-26: $9.5 million
Ovechkin will be an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2026 at 41 years old.
