  • The Valspar Championship is March 16-19.
  • It will be played at the Copperhead Course at the Innisbrook Resort.
  • Prop bets are a good alternative to outright winner bets.

Prop bets are a nice alternative to outright winners in golf betting each week.  For example, instead of selecting a player to win, picking him to finish in the top 10 might have better value.

Below are my best prop bets for the Valspar Championship this week.

Valspar Championship 2023: Best Prop Bets

Justin Thomas Top-5 Finish +140

Thomas playing in this event shows that it matters to him; he could easily take the week off since it is not a designated event. It’s clear he likes the course and expects to play well. He led the field tee-to-green last year, but a poor putting week held him back, and he finished T-3.

By Thomas’ standards, he is in a mini-slump with just one top-10 finish this calendar year.. A motivated Thomas against a weaker field than in other tournaments he’s played in this year could lead to a strong week for the 29-year-old.

Ryan Gerard Top-20 Finish +300

Gerard was a Monday qualifier for the Honda Classic two weeks ago and finished solo fourth to earn a spot in the Puerto Rico Open. There, he finished T-11. A top-10 would’ve automatically earned him a spot in the field this week, but instead, he’s in via a sponsors exemption.

And with a T-54 finish or better this week, he will earn a special temporary membership on the PGA Tour. Getting the 23-year-old at this number feels like a steal, given how well he’s playing.

Akshay Bhatia Top-20 Finish +333

Bhatia is similar to Gerard; he earned a special temporary membership by finishing second at the Puerto Rico Open. He’s played in four PGA Tour events this season and made the cut in all four. While he missed the cut as a 17-year-old in this event in 2019, that experience should help him this week.

On the Korn Ferry Tour this season, he has two top-7 finishes in four starts. Bhatia will soon be a name to know on the PGA Tour, so now is the time to bet on him before oddsmakers start noticing.
