The TGL (Tomorrow’s Golf League), founded by former sports executive Mike McCarley, Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy in partnership with the PGA Tour, is officially underway.

The matches are played at the SoFi Center, an indoor venue in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

The matches are match play style between teams of three players and also have several quirks, including The Hammer.

What Is The Hammer in TGL Golf?

At any point during play, a team can utilize a “hammer” to double the hole’s value from one to two points. If the opposing team declines to accept the hammer, they forfeit the hole. One catch is if the “hammer” is offered prior to a tee shot being struck, that team must accept.

One team is assigned the hammer at the start of the match, and only the team possessing the hammer can utilize it; once they do so, its possession is ceded to the other team.
