  • The welterweight fight between Gilbert Burns and Sean Brady headlines the UFC fight night this weekend.
  • Burns is on a two-fight losing skid, while Brady is coming off a win.
  • Burns is the +165 betting underdog, and Brady is the -200 betting favorite.

An all-important welterweight match goes down this weekend inside the APEX Center in Las Vegas, as ranked contenders Gilbert Burns and Sean Brady will headline the UFC fight night. The result of this match will have significant implications for the 170-pound division.

Brady is the betting favorite heading into the match with -200 UFC odds because of his better record and winning his previous fight. Meanwhile, Burns is on a two-fight losing skid, making him the +165 betting underdog.

Gilbert Burns Recent Fight Results

Burns is a 10-year UFC veteran who made his promotional debut in 2014 with a unanimous decision win over Andreas Stahl. Since then, he has won 14 of his next 21 fights and climbed up the rankings of the welterweight division.

His most notable wins were against Demian Maia, Tyron Woodley, Stephen Thompson, Neil Magny, and Jorge Masvidal. His biggest achievement in the UFC was becoming a title challenger against Kamaru Usmanโ€™s reign in February 2021 at UFC 258. However, he came up short and suffered a third-round TKO loss in that fight.

Sean Brady Recent Fight Results

Brady was a former CFFC champion when he was signed by the UFC in 2019. He immediately proved he belonged to the best fight promotion by winning five straight fights, beating Court McGee, Ismail Naurdiev, Christian Aguilera, Jake Matthews, and Michael Chiesa.

However, in October 2022, Brady suffered a second-round TKO loss to Belal Muhammad at UFC 280, his first professional career defeat. But the 31-year-old American contender instantly bounced back from that setback and won his fight against Kelvin Gastelum in December via third-round submission.

Gilbert Burns vs. Sean Brady: Fight Analysis

The tale of the tape between Burns and Brady is almost identical. Their height and leg reach are the same, at 5-10 and 40 inches, respectively. But Brady will enjoy a 1-inch reach advantage over Burns, with 72 inches against his 71-inch reach.

Another massive difference between them is the age gap, with Burns being older by seven years. This spells an advantage for each fighter. For Burns, experience will be on his side, while Brady will have youth and athleticism siding him.

Moving on with their fighting style, both have a fighting base of Brazilian jiu-jitsu, but they also have solid striking skills that can put their opponents out, especially when they get a hold of them down the mat with ground-and-pound strikes.

However, the biggest factor in this matchup is Burnsโ€™s age. Since his last victory in April 2023, โ€œDurinhoโ€ has seen a massive decline in his performances, which, to be honest, has caused him to lose his fights with Muhammad and Della Maddalena.

In those fights, his movement and explosiveness werenโ€™t the same as two or three years ago when he was at his peak, and fighting an opponent of the calibre of Brady will be a tough order for Burns right now.

This will be a massive opportunity for Brady to capitalize on the aging Burns, who is turning out to be the new gatekeeper of the weight class. Brady should use his physicality and athleticism to dominate the fight, both in the striking and grappling areas.

Official Prediction: Unanimous decision victory for Sean Brady.
