Alexander Volkanovski has absorbed another defeat at the hands of UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev after a first-round knockout in the main event of UFC 294 on Oct. 21, 2023, inside the Etihad Arena in Yas Island, United Arab Emirates. It was his only second loss in the UFC and third overall. Despite this latest setback, he remains a favorite name in online sports betting.

Volkanovski was an 11-day replacement opponent for Charles Oliveira after he suffered a nasty cut in his eye in the tail-end of his preparation against Makhachev. “The Great” gladly accepted the gigantic challenge that lived up to his moniker.
When Is Alexander Volkanovski’s Next Fight?
After losing Makhachev, Volkanovski has revealed that he is looking to return to the 145-pound division and defend his title anew against any top contender he hasn’t fought yet. No. 4-ranked Arnold Allen and No. 5-ranked Ilia Topuria are the top names in the top five rankings he hasn’t faced yet. One of them is expected to get the title shot next.
For now, the Australian champion will recover and recuperate from the damage he sustained from Makhachev before focusing on his next opponent.
