  • France is favored to win against Australia.
  • Despite several injuries, France still has one of the best squads.
  • France is likely to win without conceding a goal.

The current World Cup title holders kickstart their FIFA World Cup schedule against Australia on November 22.

Les Blues will want to start the tournament with a statement win as they hope to become only the third team in history to claim back-to-back titles.

Australia, on the other hand, would be happy just to advance from the Group Stage.

France vs. Australia Analysis

Much has been made of Franceโ€™s injury list coming into this tournament, with the most notable absences being Paul Pogba, N’Golo Kantรฉ, and Christopher Nkunku. While the midfield is particularly hard-hit, Didier Deschamps still has one of the strongest squads in the tournament.

From 2022 Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema, PSG dangerman Kylian Mbappe and Atletico Madridโ€™s Antoine Griezmann to Raphael Varane, William Saliba, Aurelien Tchouameni, and many more – this is a team loaded at almost every position.

Deschamps moved to a 3-4-1-2 formation to accommodate his attacking talent, but heโ€™s still defensive-minded, and if his team struggles, he will be happy to revert to a tighter system.

For Australia, this is unlikely to be a positive experience for a team whose best abilities on the field are resolve, grit, and a scrappy fighting style. Simply put, Australia struggled to qualify for the World Cup, and they are a far cry from 2006โ€™s golden generation of players that got the team through to the Round of 16.

Graham Arnoldโ€™s team will set up with containment in mind and will be happy to attack through set pieces and on the counter. The problem with this is that they are facing a frightening attacking trio of Benzema, Mbappe, and Griezmann.

Quite frankly, I donโ€™t see the Socceroos getting anything out of this, although an upset would make Group D wide open.ย

France appears to have the three points in the bag, and I expect them to win by at least two goals.
