  • Devin Haney defends his WBC World Super Lightweight title on Saturday against Ryan Garcia.
  • Haney is the heavy betting favorite at -900.
  • Garcia is the overwhelming betting underdog at +500.

Reigning WBC World Super Lightweight champion Devin Haney will defend his championship for the first time, as he takes on the challenge of Ryan Garcia this Saturday inside the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Due to his immaculate professional boxing record of 31 wins with 15 TKO/KOs and his world title pedigree, Haney will be the heavy betting favorite in boxing odds at -900. Meanwhile, Garcia is the overwhelming +500 betting underdog as he already sustained a defeat.

Devin Haney Recent Fight Results

Haney was a former amateur national boxing champion in the United States before turning professional in December 2015. He carried over his success and won 31 straight fights while collecting four world titles.

A few of Haney’s most notable wins came against Yuriorkis Gamboa, Jorge Linares, George Kambosos Jr., and Vasiliy Lomachenko. His most recent victory was against Regis Prograis in December, when he unanimously beat him to become the new WBC World Super Lightweight champion.

Ryan Garcia Recent Fight Results

Garcia was also a household name in the amateur ranks of the United States before he turned pro in 2016. Although he only won a few minor boxing titles and an interim belt, he rose to stardom through social media and built a massive following.

In April 2023, Garcia fought Gervonta Davis in a high-profile fight but suffered a seventh-round knockout loss. But “King Ry” bounced back quickly in December when he scored an eighth-round knockout of Oscar Duarte Jurado.

Devin Haney vs. Ryan Garcia: Fight Analysis

The tale of the tape of Haney and Garcia is almost identical, with only an inch separating them in height and reach. Both are also at the same age of 25. However, the two major differences are their records and TKO/KO percentage.

Haney has the better pro record with no losses on his slate, while Garcia already has one defeat under his belt. Another significant discrepancy is their TKO/KO percentage because Garcia has a 35% higher rate at 83% compared to Haney’s 48%.

This is not the first time these fighters have fought inside the ring because they have already fought twice in the amateur rankings, where Haney outpointed Garcia on both occasions to win. Although a lot has changed between their two previous fights, the result may be the same for the third time.

Stylistically, it is a battle of offense versus technicality. Haney has always been a textbook fighter who loves the fundamentals. Sticking to this has helped him tremendously in achieving world title status and becoming one of the best up-and-coming athletes of the sport.

His combination of fight IQ, footwork, defense, and counters is one of the best recipes. On the other hand, Garcia relies heavily on his speed and power, which have earned him a number of highlight-reel finishes that made his name relevant among fans in the boxing community.

Haney has always faced opposition with incredible power on their hands, but he seemed to have the formula to tame them. He played the matador role in some kind of bullfighting match against the aggressive foes. Expect the defending champion to do the same against the challenger.
