The game continues to get faster in Major League Baseball.

Players in todayโ€™s era are wreaking havoc on the base paths with their speed. MLB has been tracking how fast players move since 2015 via the Sprint Speed leaderboard at Baseball Savant.

Hereโ€™s a look at the fastest players in the sport:

Who is the Fastest Player in MLB?

Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. is considered the fastest player in MLB with an average sprint speed of 30.5 feet per second during the 2024 season, per Baseball Savant.

Witt has an average sprint speed of 30.4 feet per second since entering the league in 2022. That is considered the fastest mark since MLB started tracking sprint speed in 2015.

Oddly enough, Wittโ€™s speed hasnโ€™t translated to being MLBโ€™s leader in stolen bases. Heโ€™s actually been caught stealing 35 times in his four-year career.

Who is the Best Base Runner in MLB?

According to Baseball Savantโ€™s Baserunning Run Value leaderboard, Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll had the highest mark (12) in the majors during the 2024 season.

Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani and Kansas City third baseman Maikel Garcia tied for second place with a baserunning value of eight.

Who is the Best Base Stealer in MLB?

Cincinnati Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz paced all players with 40 net bases gained during the 2024 season, per Baseball Savant. He led the majors with 67 stolen bases, while getting caught 16 times.

De La Cruz entered the year as a minus-odds favorite to lead MLB in stolen bases in 2025.
