Foul Territory: Best Arms Around the Diamond

While MLB fans often focus more on how players perform at the plate, defense is also half the game.

With that said, Scott Braun, AJ Pierzynski and Erik Kratz of Foul Territory came together to rank their best arms at each position.

Best Arms Around the Diamond

Dillon Dingler – Detroit Tigers, C

While Dingler may have one of the strongest arms among catchers, a subpar exchange rate keeps him from having an elite pop time.

Josh Naylor – Arizona Diamondbacks, 1B

At a position that doesnโ€™t require a strong arm, the oldest Naylor brother dominates the rest of the field with by far the best laser to use in those rare occasions.

Gabriel Arias – Cleveland Guardians, 2B

Second base is home to the largest gap between first and second place in this category. Clevelandโ€™s Gabriel Arias features an average arm strength that is 5 mph+ above Cincinnatiโ€™s Matt McLain.

Matt Chapman – San Francisco Giants, 3B

Itโ€™s no surprise the Giantsโ€™ third baseman is at the top of this list. Even at age 32, Chapman is still best known for his glove and cannon of a right arm.

Elly De La Cruz – Cincinnati Reds, SS

Heโ€™s just different. De La Cruzโ€™s elite arm is one of his many electric tools. Everything is LOUDโ€“arm, bat, wheels.

Miguel Andujar – Athletics, LF

The former Yankees top prospect has found a home with the Aโ€™s. His range is poor in the outfield, but heโ€™s got a big boy arm.

Oneil Cruz – Pittsburgh Pirates, CF

In his first season as a full-time center fielder with some growing pains, Cruz has still been able to showcase his elite throwing ability. With a maximum throw of 102.2 MPH this season, base runners will think twice about taking an extra base against him.

Fernando Tatis Jr. – San Diego Padres, RF

Speaking of former shortstops, Tatis Jr. is the big man with the power arm in the outfield. Runners know to tread carefully when heโ€™s ready to unleash his slingshot.
