  • Kyrie Irving asked to be traded ahead of this week’s NBA trade deadline.
  • On Sunday, the Nets dealt the mercurial star to Dallas.
  • The deal reunites Brooklyn with former player Spencer Dinwiddie.

At the end of last week, star point guard Kyrie Irving demanded to be moved from the Brooklyn Nets before this week’s impending trade deadline.

On Sunday afternoon, the Nets officially dealt him to the Dallas Mavericks, radically shifting the overall championship picture as well as the NBA odds market.

Kyrie Irving Trade Details

In exchange for trading Kyrie Irving to Dallas, the Brooklyn Nets are receiving Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, a first-round pick in the 2029 draft and multiple second-round picks.

Details about the trade are still coming out, but it’s clear that Irving is getting his wish to be removed from Brooklyn once and for all.

In doing so, the Nets are reuniting with Dinwiddie; they’re also denying what was perceived as a key championship piece to title aspirants like the Lakers and Clippers.

Kyrie Irving: Mavericks, Nets Odds on the Move After Trade

As recent as last week, the NBA odds market considered the Nets one of the premiere title contenders for this season, alongside the Celtics, Bucks and Nuggets.

The market is currently being reset at the BetMGM online sportsbook, but the Nets were +800 just a few days ago. After this move, the market will likely see them as more of a second-tier contender.

Dallas, meanwhile, was +2500 to win the title last week. An upgrade is likely coming.

Brooklyn was +450 to win the East last week; now, it’s +700.

Dorian Finney-Smith Contract

Last year, the 29-year-old power forward signed a four-year extension with the Mavericks worth $55.6 million. The 2022-23 season is the first year of the new extension, which means Finney-Smith could be in Brooklyn through 2026.

Dorian Finney-Smith Stats

Dorian Finney-Smith has spent his entire professional career in Dallas up until now. He has a career average of 8.3 points and 4.6 rebounds per game; this season, he’s averaging 9.1 points and 4.7 rebounds in 32 minutes per game.
