Once football season is over and March Madness arrives, college basketball odds take over the US online sports betting market. For a couple of weeks in March, brackets and betting are practically a national pastime.

In recent years, the NCAA women’s tournament has become increasingly popular, too. That’s partially due to increased depth in the sport, as well as cultural icons like Caitlin Clark.

For those interested in the handicapping side of things, the BetMGM online sportsbook offers women’s futures odds in addition to men’s college basketball national championship odds

Just head to the American basketball page and check the side tab that reads College – Women.

Women’s NCAA Tournament Prediction: Who Will Win the Women’s Tournament In 2025?

Based on the current futures market, the South Carolina Gamecocks have an implied 31.2% chance to win the 2025 women’s basketball national championship.

Women’s College Basketball National Championship: Odds & Analysis

In the eyes of BetMGM’s college basketball futures market, there are six main contenders for this year’s NCAA women’s basketball championship:

  • South Carolina (+225, 14.3% of tickets)
  • UConn (+240, 11.8%)
  • UCLA (+525, 9.2%)
  • USC (+700, 10.4%)
  • Texas (+700, 7.5%)
  • Notre Dame (+900, 10.8%)

South Carolina and UConn are highly recognized commodities for bettors who pay attention to women’s hoops. Dawn Staley’s South Carolina program has won three of the last seven national championships dating back to 2017. That includes last year’s title game against Caitlin Clark and Iowa.

UConn, still led by coaching legend Geno Auriemma, has won 10 national championships since 2000 but nothing since 2016.

Many have wondered if this is the year the Huskies reclaim the mantle from Staley’s Gamecocks. That theory was strengthened by a head-to-head demolition in February – UConn won by 29, ending a four-year home winning streak for South Carolina.

The decision sent UConn’s title odds flying back to the top of the board, and there was a fresh surge of futures betting with the NCAA Tournament still on the horizon. But as I noted at the time, the loss created a buy-low opportunity for prospective South Carolina.

Indeed, big-money bettors came over the top, pushing South Carolina’s handle share out to a large plurality. As of March 16, more than 30% of all money bet in the women’s futures market was on the Gamecocks.

UConn’s handle floated around 21%, meaning more than half of all futures money was on either South Carolina or the Huskies.

That lines up with a futures market with hefty prices on both teams.

“South Carolina and UConn are the most bet teams to win the national championship,” affirmed BetMGM trader Hannah Luther. “These favorites will be the most popular teams to win and cover with bettors throughout the tournament. The sportsbook will be cheering against the Gamecocks and Huskies.”

Sportsbook animus hasn’t been enough to stop UConn or South Carolina in previous seasons, so if you like either team, bet confidently on their title odds.

At these incredibly short prices, though, I think the sportsbook has created an opening to chase the value with another team.

Personally, I’d cast my lot with a USC ticket – the Trojans have the best player this year in JuJu Watkins, and this doesn’t seem to be a year where UConn or South Carolina have indomitable, unbeatable teams.

You might prefer Notre Dame or late-charging Texas. I don’t think there’s necessarily a wrong answer here. But with the market titled so heavily toward the top two favorites, I think the right move for anyone not yet in the market is to go after the richer return available with one of the four remaining top teams.
