Calvin Ridley Contract: Salary, Cap Hit, Potential Extension

Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Calvin Ridley (18) runs the ball as Washington Football Team cornerback Kendall Fuller (29) defends during the first half of an NFL football game on Oct. 3, 2021, in Atlanta. Ridley is getting a fresh start in Jacksonville, although it's unclear when he will be allowed to play again. The Jaguars made a complex deal to land Ridley just before the NFL trading deadline Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2022, according to a person with knowledge of the situation.

After a two-year hiatus, Calvin Ridley is set to return to the NFL.ย

Jacksonville acquired Ridley’s contract from the Falcons and is set to give him a key role heading into 2023.ย

Drafted 26th overall in the 2018 draft, Ridley was becoming one of the most dynamic wide receivers in the game. Through his first three seasons, he had 217 catches for 3,061 yards and 26 touchdowns. However, in his fourth year, he stepped away due to mental health concerns.

The NFL subsequently suspended Ridley for gambling, and he missed the 2021 and 2022 seasons.

Calvin Ridley Salary

Ridley inked his rookie deal with the Falcons in 2018. With a promising start, the team picked up his fifth-year option worth $11,116,000. Since he was suspended before playing a single game of that extension, the fifth-year option is carried over to his next NFL season.ย

This means his base salary in 2023 with the Jaguars will be $11,116,000.

Calvin Ridley Cap Hit

The former Alabama standout will carry a cap hit of $11,116,000 in 2023.

Calvin Ridley Potential Extension

Ridley is the type of difference-making wide receiver that can completely change a team. Officially reinstated to the NFL on March 6, he is set to become one of the Jaguars’ best wide receivers.

Jacksonville was already one of the most exciting offensive teams in 2022, and their rebuild around Trevor Lawrence has proven to be a success, making their first playoff appearance since 2017. If Ridley can return to his previous form, the team can be contenders for the AFC title.

He also brings big-game experience to an inexperienced squad, winning two national championships in college. The receiver could be in line for a lucrative contract extension in 2024 if he lives up to the billing.
