C.J. Stroud is the preeminent quarterback in the AFC South. Two of the other three organizations in his division drafted a quarterback this year, looking for the signal-caller that could potentially challenge DeMeco Ryans’ ascendant roster.
Stroud has led Houston to back-to-back division titles since entering the league in 2023, and the Texans’ odds for 2025 have them listed as big favorites for a three-peat.
Not bad for a kid who barely makes $1 million in base salary.

C.J. Stroud will earn $4.05 million from his contract with the Texans during the 2025 NFL season.
About $1.03 million of that is base salary, which is the NFL minimum salary for a player with Stroud’s two years of experience.
The remaining money is structured as a roster bonus that pays out three days into training camp.

Like all first-round picks, Stroud’s rookie contract can be extended by the Texans as part of the CBA’s fifth-year option protocol. That extension would govern the 2027 NFL season.
