Patriots fans like what they saw in 2024 from rookie quarterback Drake Maye. Unfortunately, the rest of the team around him was an untalented mess, which is why the front office canned former head coach Jerod Mayo after one year and brought in a whole new coaching staff, led by Mike Vrabel.

Many analysts believe the coaching upgrade from Mayo to Vrabel is worth one or two wins alone. If the dismal roster talent ends up closer to average this year, the Patriots could sport a winning record for the first time since 2021.

Still, a lot of the future rests on the shoulders of Maye, who is playing in a division with Josh Allen and Tua Tagovailoa, not to mention the other heavy hitters elsewhere in the AFC.ย

For now, the Patriots benefit from Mayeโ€™s cheap price tag. Successful rookie contracts often correlate with winning seasons, which goes a long way toward explaining why the New England Patriots odds market has been a popular sleeper target for early NFL futures bettors.
