Drafted 106th overall in the 2016 NFL draft, Eric Murray has 270 total tackles in 101 career games.ย

Eric Murray Salary

Eric Murray’s original two-year deal with the Texans was worth $8,000,000 and was signed before the 2022 season. It contained a $1,250,000 signing bonus, with $3,750,000 guaranteed.

After having his contract reworked for 2023, the safety will earn a base salary of $1,600,000. He gets a $250,000 roster bonus per game and has additional playtime incentives that could add up to $1,500,000.

Eric Murray Cap Hit

Murray’s new contract is meant to create more cap room for the Texans. The agreement was originally supposed to carry $5,357,000 in 2023.

With the rework, the 29-year-old’s contract has a cap hit of $3,857,500 for the upcoming year and a dead cap value of $2,007,500.

Eric Murray Potential Extension

Murray has been a mainstay in the Texans’ defense since he arrived in Houston. Unfortunately, his days as a safety for the team are numbered. The team signed Jimmie Ward to a two-year deal this offseason and plans on playing him at safety. Houston also retained M.J. Stewart for a couple more years, and Jalen Pitre is an emerging star.ย

Nonetheless, Murray is experienced and can still have a significant role on special teams. He enjoys being in Houston, and restructuring his deal may help him secure an extension with the Texans.

Set to become an unrestricted free agent in 2024, it’ll be hard for Murray to reach the financial heights he previously demanded. He will still be able to prove his worth, but his days as an NFL starting safety are probably over.
