Mitch Trubisky is entering the final year of his contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Mitch Trubisky Salary
Trubisky signed a two-year, $14.3 million contract ahead of the 2022 season. This upcoming season he will earn $8 million in base salary and $2.6 million in signing bonus.
Mitch Trubisky Cap Hit
The 28-year-old will carry a cap hit of $10.6 million this year.
Mitch Trubisky Potential Extension
Trubisky signed on with the Steelers ahead of the 2022 season. He earned the starting job over rookie Kenny Pickett, but his stint as the first-string QB was short-lived. After a disappointing 1-2 start, Trubisky was benched during the team’s Week 4 loss to the Jets and spent the remainder of the season playing backup.
Trubisky still has one year left on his contract with Pittsburgh. Although offloading him would free up a good chunk of cap space, Steelers GM Omar Khan has expressed interest in keeping the veteran quarterback for the remainder of his contract. A reasonable extension would likely be for two years, worth around $9.3 million.
If Trubisky is released this offseason, the Steelers would save $8 million while losing around $2.7 million in dead cap hit. Another way the team could save on cap hit is to throw in a void year. In this scenario, Trubisky would remain on the roster for another year, and the Steelers would be able to allocate cap space elsewhere.
