Those quarterbacks were John Elway (1st overall), Jim Kelly (7th overall) and Dan Marino (27th overall).
The record was then matched at the 2024 NFL Draft, which saw six quarterbacks taken in the first 12 overall picks.
Those picks were Caleb Williams (1st), Jayden Daniels (2nd), Drake Maye (3rd), Michael Penix Jr. (8th), J.J. McCarthy (10th) and Drake Maye (12th).
The pace at which 2024 saw its six quarterbacks drafted outranked the pace in 1983. In the latter draft, the six quarterbacks heard their names called over a 27-pick span.
At the 2025 NFL Draft, fewer quarterbacks are expected to hear their names in round 1.
