What Are NFL Draft Compensatory Picks?

Compensatory picks in the NFL Draft are selections between rounds 3-7 given to teams due to a net loss of eligible free agents or if minority coaches or executives become head coaches or general managers with other teams.

Which picks are given out is based on several factors, like a playerโ€™s average salary and prior year’s snap count.

At least 32 compensatory picks are given out each year. No team can receive more than four picks in a given year.
