If the golf odds were any tighter at the top for this week’s Travelers Championship in Connecticut, a golfer would need a crowbar in the bag this week.
With FedExCup Standings leader Patrick Cantlay (+1400) and No. 3 Bryson DeChambeau (+1200) participating, along with other big names like Dustin Johnson (+1200), it should make for a competitive tournament. One bettor certainly expects it to be a nail-biter, placing an $8,450 specials bet on it having a playoff (+350 betting odds). If they’re right? The individual wins $29,575.
The top six golfers in the PGA betting odds for Travelers have won tournaments in 2021, though Johnson’s victory was the Saudi Invitational, and Paul Casey’s was the Omega Dubai Desert Classic -- both European Tour events. Still, for an event nestled so closely between two majors -- this past weekend’s U.S. Open and mid-July’s Open Championship -- it’s a talented field when so many elite golfers could opt to rest.

“Coming off a fantastic US Open, the PGA caravan moves to Connecticut and the Travelers Championship,” said Jason Scott, VP Trading at BetMGM. “All eyes will be on Bryson DeChambeau as bettors will wonder whether or not he can bounce back after his horrific back nine cost him a potential win at the US Open.
“DeChambeau has received the second-most tickets (5.8% to Brooks Koepka’s 6.3%) and handle (see below) to win the tournament."
Overall this has been a pretty balanced season, with only four PGA golfers winning twice in this COVID-19 reworked 2020-21 season. Cantlay, DeChambeau, and Stewart Cink are playing this week, while Jason Kokrak declined. In all, there have been 35 different winners in 2020-21.
Could this tournament feature the season’s 36th different winner in 40 events? Paul Casey (+1600), Scottie Scheffler (+2500), Tony Finau (+2500), and Abraham Ancer (+2500) are tops in the Travelers Championship betting odds who are also seeking their first victory of 2020-21.
The highest betting handle so far for the Travelers has been Dustin Johnson at 9.6%, with DeChambeau coming in at 8.3%. Ancer and Scheffler come in at 7.9%.
