The Grant Thornton Invitational from Tiburón Golf Club in Naples, Florida, made history.
It was the first mixed-team co-sanctioned event between the LPGA and PGA Tour since 1999.
There were 16 teams competing, with a PGA Tour player and an LPGA Tour player making up the pairs. Some of the teams included Nelly Korda-Tony Finau, Lexi Thompson-Rickie Fowler and Rose Zhang-Sahith Theegala.
Each of the three rounds had a different format.
The first round was a scramble, and the second round was alternate shot. The third round featured a new format to team play. In the “modified four-ball,” both players teed off and then they switched balls for their second shots and played that ball until holed. The lower score of the partners counted as the team score.
In the end, Lydia Ko and Jason Day were the winners, finishing at 26-under, which gave them a one-shot win.
The event had a $4 million purse.
