Iron play is extremely important for success in the game of golf, especially on the PGA Tour.
It can make up for weak aspects of a player’s game. For example, if a player consistently hits his iron shots close to the hole, it can make up for struggles with chipping and putting. Also, many of the best iron players are consistent winners on the PGA Tour.
Here are the best iron players on the PGA Tour entering the PGA Championship.
Best Iron Players on the PGA Tour
Brooks Koepka
Koepka returned to the PGA Tour in January and has already re-established himself as one of the best iron players on Tour.
He currently ranks first in Strokes Gained: Approach. If he can get his putter going, he could find himself in the winner’s circle sooner rather than later.
Collin Morikawa
Morikawa ranks No. 2 in Strokes Gained: Approach at this point of the season.
On top of winning the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, he followed that up with four straight T-7 or better finishes.
Adam Scott
Scott currently sits No. 3 in Strokes Gained: Approach this season.
The 45-year-old hasn’t missed a cut since the Open Championship, and has seven top-25 finishes this season.
Si Woo Kim
Kim ranks No. 4 in Strokes Gained: Approach this season.
This doesn’t come as much of a surprise, given he hasn’t missed a cut this year and has eight top-15 finishes.
Honorable mention: Matt Fitzpatrick, Kurt Kitayama, Rory McIlroy, Daniel Berger, J.J. Spaun, Ludvig Aberg, Austin Smotherman, Ryan Gerard, Sepp Straka, Nicolai Højgaard and Austin Eckroat.
