  • The Mexico Open at Vidanta is April 27-30.
  • First-round leader bets are a nice way to make a quick profit.
  • Odds are typically better for FRL bets than to win outright.

The Mexico Open at Vidanta will begin April 27 from Vidanta Vallarta in Vallarta, Mexico.

It is not a designated event but is the only trip to Mexico for the PGA Tour this season. It also is just the second year the tournament has been in existence.

Last year, Tony Finau and Brandon Wu each shot 63 in the final round, so low scores can be had. There were also a number of 64s throughout the week.

Who could post the best score in Thursday’s first round? Below are my first-round leader bets for the week.

Mexico Open at Vidanta 2023: First-Round Leader (FRL) Bets

Jon Rahm +900 First-Round Leader

This is a prime example of getting a better number for a player to lead after the first round than to win outright. Rahm is +250 to win the tournament, so there’s much better value to bet on him to lead after the first round.

Rahm shot a 64 in the first round a year ago, and he currently leads the PGA Tour in first-round scoring average (67.11).

Patrick Rodgers First-Round Leader +4000

Rodgers fits a lot of the key metrics needed to play well this week, and he finished in 10th place last year at this event and is coming off a T-19 finish at the RBC Heritage and a fifth-place finish at the Valero Texas Open. He started well both weeks, so maybe this is the week he takes it up a notch.

Akshay Bhatia +8000 First-Round Leader

Bhatia has played very well at resort-style courses in warmer climates, and Vidanta Vallarta fits the bill. Now with membership privileges on the PGA Tour following a runner-up finish at the Puerto Rico Open, he can play a little more relaxed. Don’t be surprised to see him go low this week.
