- The Sentry Tournament of Champions is an invite-only event.
- It's a four-round stroke play event with no cut.
- Justin Thomas has won it twice, including in 2020.
The Sentry Tournament of Champions, which has a purse of $15 million, will be played Jan. 5-8 at the Plantation Course in Kapalua, Hawaii.
It is the first event on the 2023 calendar and is invite-only. Only winners on the PGA Tour during the 2022 calendar year and those who qualified for the 2022 Tour Championship make up the Sentry Tournament of Champions field.
In all, 40 players were invited but 39 will tee it up. Rory McIlroy is the only player who qualified who is not playing.
Sentry Tournament of Champions Format
Besides being a limited-field event, it follows the format of a regular PGA Tour event.
It will be contested over four rounds of stroke play, with no cut after the second round since it’s a limited field.
