  • Sean O'Malley is the new UFC Bantamweight Champion.
  • O'Malley defeated Aljamain Sterling in the main event of UFC 292 via second-round TKO.
  • O'Malley's next opponent is yet to be determined.

Sean O’Malley realized his dream to become a UFC champion after stopping Aljamain Sterling in the main event of UFC 292 inside the TD Garden in Boston. “Suga Sean” defied the UFC odds in that match as the underdog by landing his patented right-hand punch to end Sterling’s reign as the 135-pound division champion.

It was his 17th career victory and 12th TKO/KO win. He now rides a five-fight winning streak that dates back to March 2021. His lone defeat was courtesy of Marlon Vera in August 2020 when he stopped O’Malley in the opening round. With a big target on his back now, who should the 28-year-old face next inside the Octagon?

When is Sean O’Malley’s Next Fight?

There is no confirmed next opponent yet for Sean O’Malley, but he called out Marlon Vera in his post-fight interview and expressed his desire to have a rematch with him later this year for the bantamweight title. Aside from Vera, other ranked challengers like Merab Dvalishvili, Henry Cejudo, and Cory Sandhagen await their title opportunity against O’Malley.
