  • The New York Liberty went 32-8 in 2023.
  • Breanna Stewart is +500 to repeat as WNBA's MVP winner.

The New York Liberty formed a superteam last offseason, but ultimately lost 3-1 to the Las Vegas Aces in the 2023 WNBA Finals.

According to the BetMGM online sportsbook, the Liberty are still the biggest contenders to the Aces heading into the 2024 season.

Liberty Futures Odds

Win total: 31.5
To make playoffs: -3000
To miss playoffs: +1200
Championship odds: +230

The Liberty are still seeking their first championship in franchise history after losing in last year’s WNBA Finals. They have finished runner-up in 1997, 1999, 2000, 2002, and 2023.

New York is second in the latest WNBA championship odds at +230, trailing only Las Vegas’ +100 price.

The Liberty have a win total of 31.5 (-110 on both sides) after posting a 32-8 overall record last season.

Liberty 2024 Betting Prediction

Prediction: Breanna Stewart to win MVP (+500)

The preseason WNBA MVP odds don’t give New York’s Breanna Stewart much of a chance at repeating.

Stewart is +500 to win the award for the second year in a row, trailing Las Vegas forward A’ja Wilson and her +175 value.

I like the idea of building a two-player portfolio around Stewart and Wilson again this season, as they are the two best players in the WNBA. Stewart will become more of a factor in this race, opening an opportunity to bet on Wilson later.

Stewart, who has won two MVP awards in her career, averaged 23 points, 9.3 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 3.1 stocks (steals and blocks) per game last year.

Stewart should put up even better numbers in her second season with the Liberty. This team went through some growing pains at the start of last year.

New York’s win total is just one game below Las Vegas, so it’s not unreasonable to think the Liberty could finish higher than the Aces in the final standings.

If that happens, the team’s best player will have a strong case to win MVP.
