Thereโ€™s no place like home, and the college football odds market knows it. Every week during the fall, bettors line up to bet moneyline parlays full of home teams and crafty underdogs ready to enjoy a little home cooking.

Every sports fan โ€“ even those who arenโ€™t necessarily involved in online sports betting โ€“ understands the value of playing on home turf.ย

Today, Iโ€™m answering a simple question. We all know playing at home is meaningful, but how often do teams actually win their home games? It might be less frequent than you think.

How Often Do Home Teams Win In College Football?

According to data from Bet Labs, FBS college football teams have won 59.2% of their home games dating back to 2005.ย

Since 2018, when the U.S. Supreme Court overturned PASPA, home teams have a marginally better win percentage of 59.9%.ย

On average, FBS teams are losing two out of every five home games. And remember, that home-field advantage is already priced into the number youโ€™re getting, regardless of whether youโ€™re betting moneylines or college football spreads.

That means blind-betting home teams is generally a losing proposition. To be successful, bettors must be more discerning in their selections.
