College football helmet stickers are given to individual players as a reward.

At top programs like Florida State or Ohio State, it’s often easy to tell the best players by finding the players with the most helmet stickers.

Helmet stickers can be given for game-changing plays, strong performances, or even good practices and workout sessions. At Michigan, each helmet sticker is unique and unlocked for specific actions.

The tradition started in Columbus in 1968 when former Ohio State head coach Ernie Biggs wanted to create additional incentives for his players.
